Recently, 123Dentist.com Community Dentist Network member Aaargon Dental Centre sponsored Coquitlam’s annual Music on the Grill, hosted by the Evergreen Cultural Centre.

Along with a tasty barbecue dinner, guests enjoyed the scenic view of Lafarge Lake while enjoying talented musical performances while they ate. After dinner and dessert was the main event, a concert in the Evergreen Cultural Centre’s cabaret theatre.

The performances this year were by Odds and Soultrax. On July 7th, the Odds took audience members on a ride through the last 20 years with their dynamic show, titled “A Good Weird Story”. The show had a big back screen with visual aids so audience members could immerse themselves in a one-of-a-kind alternative pop/rock concert experience.

On July 21st, Soultrax took audience members on a journey through the blues, R&B and soul. All six band members bring their incredible talent and energy to every single song, and their music truly comes from the heart.

Guests enjoyed celebrating the spirit of Coquitlam along with our local musical talent, making both events a huge success!

If you’re getting tired of the same old boring oral care routine, why not switch it up with an electric toothbrush? Not only is it better for your oral health, it’s more fun to use!

What is the difference between an electric toothbrush and a manual toothbrush?

While manual toothbrushes are cheaper, electric toothbrushes provide a far greater benefit to your oral care routine. Manual toothbrushes require you to do everything manually, causing you to get tired easily and miss cleaning certain parts of your mouth.

Electric toothbrushes can take on all the work, leaving you with the easy task of just holding the brush against your teeth. Of course there is a technique to brushing with an electric toothbrush, but the overall task of brushing your teeth becomes easier and more efficient.

Still not convinced? Here are some more ways an electric toothbrush can benefit you:

-          Most have a built-in timer to make sure you brush for a full two minutes—30 seconds for each quadrant of your mouth (upper left, upper right, lower left, lower right)

-          Removes more bacteria so you have fresher breath

-          Can work as a stain remover for your teeth

-          Removes plaque from in-between your teeth and gums, decreasing your chances of getting cavities or gingivitis

-          Reaches and cleans areas in your mouth that a manual toothbrush can’t

-          Easy to use for people with arthritis or other health problems that may affect their ability to manually brush their teeth

How do I brush with an electric toothbrush?

-          The key to brushing with an electric toothbrush is the way in which you hold your brush. Angle the bristles against your gums and teeth to make sure it brushes away all the plaque.

-          When you hold an electric toothbrush, don’t press it too hard—using too much force can cause damage to your teeth.

-          Use the timer with your brush to make sure you take the time needed to thoroughly remove the plaque in your mouth.

What is the best electric toothbrush for me?

With so much variety of electric toothbrushes out there, you may be wondering which brand is right for you.

The truth is most electric toothbrushes are very similar in their quality and features. When you’re deciding between different brands, such as Oral B and Sonicare, the decision has more to do with your personal tastes than the brands themselves. Ask yourself: Do you prefer a brush that brushes in a circular motion or in a side-to-side motion? Do you prefer a visual timer? Do you prefer a brush that has a nicer look?

With these preferences in mind, you’ll be able to narrow down the multitude of electric toothbrush brands out there to the ones that would work more specifically for you. Once you find an electric toothbrush that’s right for you, you can get started on your road to a fresher and cleaner smile.

Learn how to identify the main signs of teeth grinding with 123Dentist.com, Vancouver’s Dentist Search Engine.

Is your stress affecting your overall sleep habits? Do you wake up in the morning feeling tired? If you do, you might want to check with your dental health professional to see if you unconsciously grind your teeth at night.

While your sleep habits aren’t the only way to tell if you’re grinding your teeth, it’s a pretty good indication that you might be. Check out the information below to see if this applies to you.

What is teeth grinding?

Teeth grinding, also referred to as Bruxism, is when you consciously or unconsciously clench and grind your teeth against one another.  After a while, it can wear down your teeth, causing other oral health problems to develop.

It’s very common and easily treatable. The hardest part is finding out whether you grind your teeth in the first place.

Here are some helpful tips to answer that question for you.

You may suffer from grinding your teeth if you have:

- Worn down teeth
- Sensitive teeth
- A sore jaw
Frequent headaches
- Woken up because you’ve clenched your teeth too hard

How can I treat teeth grinding?

First, you have to find out if you actually have it—because people usually grind their teeth unconsciously, it’s difficult to tell if you grind your teeth unless you consult a dental health professional.

Once you know for sure, try to dig deep to find the root cause of your teeth grinding. If your teeth grinding is related to stress, attend a counseling session to help gain control over your stress.

Here are some more tips on how you can prevent further grinding of your teeth:

- Avoid alcohol
- Avoid foods with caffeine in them, especially before you go to sleep
- Try some relaxing breathing exercises to calm yourself down before you sleep
- If grinding your teeth has become a regular issue—your hygienist at a 123Dentist.com dental clinic may suggest putting a mouth guard on your teeth to reduce any further damage

If you’ve experienced any of these signs, let your hygienist at 123Dentist.com know. They can give you some tips more personal to you, so you can keep on smiling.
