Atlantis Dental Cambie brings the same warm, personalized approach we’ve offered in Yaletown, now in a spot that’s more convenient for Mount Pleasant and Olympic Village families. From your first visit, our team takes the time to understand what you need – not just your dental history, but also your comfort level, concerns, and goals. Each member of our dental team works together to provide general, cosmetic, and specialty care in a way that’s clear, steady, and low-pressure.

Services range from exams and cleanings to root canals, oral surgery, Botox, and dental implants. Dr. Tom Karkanis

Doctors

Dr. Karkanis’ passion for bringing modern dentistry to his patients is fuelled by his unique combination of dental expertise (he’s a graduate of the University of Western Ontario’s Dental School), strong scientific background (he also has a PhD in Cellular Physiology), and facility with computer technology. Dr. Karkanis provides all aspects of cosmetic, laser, and advanced restorative dentistry in his practice. His patients benefit from the many solutions he offers, including Cerec 1-visit crowns, Invisalign clear braces, and oral sedation.

Outside of his practice, Tom is an avid fan of music, Tom received his Performer’s Diploma in piano from London’s Trinity College in 1991, and in his free time also enjoys competitive gaming, skiing and squash.

Dr. Jason grew up in Bangor, N. Ireland where he went on to study Dentistry at Queen’s University Belfast. He qualified in 2008 with Distinctions in Restorative Dentistry. He practiced in the UK for 5 years before his thirst for adventure took him to Vancouver in 2013. He immediately fell in love with BC so decided to sit his NDEB exams and make Vancouver his home.
Jason believes his patients’ comfort and happiness are paramount. He loves to put a smile on their faces whether that be by relieving pain, cosmetic treatments such as veneers, crowns or bonding, Invisalign or even implants.

Outside of the office, Jason enjoys getting out and spending time with his family in the great outdoors. He loves to surf, snowboard and play soccer.

Dr. Joel Epstein

Dr. Epstein is a graduate of the College of Dentistry, University of Saskatchewan and received a certificate in Oral Medicine and Master of Science Degree in Dentistry from the University of Washington in Seattle. He is a Fellow of the College of Dental Surgeons of Canada in Oral Medicine/Oral Pathology and a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Oral Medicine and was President of the Board of Oral Medicine. He was Professor and Head of the Department of Oral Medicine and Diagnostic Sciences, and Director of the Interdisciplinary Program in Oral Cancer Biology, Prevention and Treatment at the Chicago Cancer Center, College of Medicine, Adjunct Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology and Head and Surgery of the University of Illinois at Chicago. Prior to relocating to Chicago, he was Professor of Oral Medicine and Director of the Graduate Program in Oral Medicine, and the DECOD (Dental Care for the Disabled) Program, at the University of Washington, Seattle WA.

He was on the medical/dental staff of the British Columbia Cancer Agency for 20 years; and Head of the Department of Dentistry at Vancouver Hospital and Health Sciences Centre, as well as on staff at other teaching hospitals in Vancouver, and a Clinical Professor in the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of British Columbia. He is now Director of Oral Medicine, Division of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery City of Hope, Duarte, CA and medical-dental staff at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, CA. He conducts a private referral practice in Oral Medicine and consultation practice in Vancouver BC. Dr. Epstein has published in oncology, facial pain and general areas of Oral Medicine, with more than six hundred contributions to the literature.

Dr. Kathy Lin believes in providing patient-centered care in a comfortable and welcoming environment. She earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from the University of Toronto, where she was selected to travel to Ethiopia to teach local dental students for two weeks – an experience that deepened her passion for education and global healthcare.

With a focus on clear communication, Dr. Lin ensures her patients are well-informed and confident in their treatment decisions. She enjoys all aspects of dentistry and strives to create a positive, personalized experience for each patient.

Outside the office, Dr. Lin stays active with snowboarding, running, and recently picking up tennis and pilates. She loves cooking and experimenting with new recipes. Dr. Lin also enjoys spending time with her cat, Custard, and exploring local pet stores for new treats and toys.

Dr. Ben Ta

Dr. Benjamin Ta was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and later moved to the Lower Mainland, where he pursued his undergraduate studies at Capilano University and the University of British Columbia (UBC) while also competing as a varsity volleyball athlete for five years. Dr. Ben went on to earn his Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree from UBC and has been practicing dentistry across the Lower Mainland ever since.

His passion for dentistry stems from his own experience with extensive orthodontic treatment, which gave him a deep appreciation for the impact a healthy smile can have on self-esteem and confidence. Dr. Ben is committed to providing patient-centred care and has pursued advanced training in endodontics, oral surgery, and orthodontics (Invisalign). He also incorporates the comprehensive philosophies taught at the prestigious Kois Center in Seattle into his practice. Dr. Ben speaks both English and Vietnamese.

Outside the clinic, Dr. Ben can often be found on the volleyball court. He has coached volleyball for over 10 years, working with children and adults —from recreational levels to provincial teams. He also spent a summer aiding with the Canadian Women’s Senior National Team. His coaching résumé includes assistant coaching roles with both the men’s and women’s volleyball programs at Capilano University, as well as more than eight years (and counting) as an assistant coach with the Simon Fraser University Women’s Volleyball Team.
