Dr. Dickson Kong was born and raised in Richmond Hill, Ontario, and after discovering an interest in biology in high school, decided to pursue a career in health care.
I graduated first class honours with distinction in Biology at York University. I continued with my studies at the University of Western Ontario dental school, where I received the General Medicine award and graduated with honours in 2016.
After graduating, I was fortunate enough to work with and receive mentorship from many Dentistry mentors (including Dr. Dove).
I spent the first few years practicing in Kirkland Lake and Napanee. Similar to the community here in Barrie, these communities were non-fluoridated, leading to a great demand for care. My experience working in Kirkland Lake and Napanee reinforced the importance of chairside manners when caring for my patients. I understand that anxiety is often a barrier for people seeking care, which motivated me to obtain my certification in nitrous and oral moderate sedation to provide the most comfortable dental experience for my patient.
I am constantly trying to broaden my knowledge and skills in Dentistry and continue to invest time in continuing my education. This includes completing courses like implant training, where I had the opportunity to learn directly from a top Periodontist at the University of Toronto. One of my current areas of interest is Invisalign, enabling me to improve my patients’ smiles with the latest digital technology.
Outside of Dentistry, I am admittedly a huge geek. I love reading news about the latest technology and gadgets. There is a possibility that I get as many questions from my friends about smartphone recommendations as I do about Dentistry. Between staying up to date with the latest dentistry and technology, my lovely wife Tracy and I love binge-watching TV shows and trying out new restaurants.
