Invisalign Teen: The Invisalign Experience for Parents!

Being a teenager is tougher than ever. There’s a lot of pressure at school and at home; socially with friends, even dating and that’s before the extra curricular clubs, sports and fine arts activities. It’s a magical time in all of our lives, full of fun, memorable experiences and it should be the best days of our lives, to quote Bryan Adams. But almost nothing puts a damper on it like traditional wire braces. Not being able to smile like yourself makes it harder to get though the day to day, which is one reason why Invisalign is so popular with teenagers.

Take a look at this comparison chart with Invisalign Teen and Various Types of Braces!

If you need to correct a problem with overbite, underbite, gapped, crooked or overcrowded teeth, you may not have a choice when it comes to braces, but you can choose how those braces will look in most cases. Invisalign offers teens and adults a clear alternative to braces that won’t make them self conscious. Research has shown that parents often underestimate how self-conscious crooked teeth and braces can make their children, but thankfully there is now a solution to ease some of that anxiety.

Switching From Braces to Invisalign

Once you decide to make the switch to Invisalign from traditional braces you’ll start by removing your braces. That might sound obvious, but you actually need to get your Invisalign impressions done after your braces come off and the process isn’t instantaneous. You can usually get your impressions and photos taken in the same visit as getting your braces off, but it will take a couple weeks to create the custom Invisalign aligners that will replace them. In the meantime, you’ll need to wear a plastic retainer to keep your teeth from shifting too much.

Invisalign Just For Teens

Invisalign for your teenager works the same way as regular Invisalign does, except it is specifically made with teens in mind. Each set of Invisalign Teen aligner trays comes with a built in sensor to let your dentist and you know that your teen is using them correctly. You won’t have to worry about your teen forgetting to wear their Invisalign often enough, which shows just how much thought has gone into making Invisalign Teen stand out as an industry leader.

Invisalign Teen Day One

At first, Invisalign can be a little uncomfortable. Small fasteners have to temporarily be bonded to your teen’s teeth to give the custom aligners something to lock into and hold them in place. Every 2 months a new set of aligners replaces the previous set, and you only need to wear Invisalign 20-22 hours a day as directed by your dentist. This means you can serve whatever meals you want with Invisalign Teen and aside from a little bit of difficulty speaking the first few days and some mild discomfort with the new, tighter aligners every two weeks, there are no side effects and no pain.

Invisalign Teen Day to Day

When you’re a teenager, you’re active and you take more risks. It’s not unreasonable to say you might almost feel invincible and that means being reckless with things like daily brushing and flossing. For teens with traditional braces, it almost certainly means eating food you shouldn’t like popcorn or gum and taking part in physical activities that could damage your braces and your teeth if you’re not careful. Invisalign helps address these issues and is actually safer in highly physical activities. It’s less painful for most teens and allows proper brushing and flossing to continue uninhibited. In other words, it lets you instil good habits when they’re most crucial to development. Invisalign Teen even comes with six replacement aligners if your teenager loses theirs.

Visiting Your Dentist

Invisalign and Invisalign Teen require less visits to the dentist than traditional braces. You’ll still need to check in and make small adjustments with Invisalign, but there are fewer visits, just once every 4-6 weeks and no tightening of wires or discomfort. Visits to the dentist are calculated with your treatment cost, and the appointments are important to make sure the treatment is progressing as planned. When your teen eventually completes their treatment, there isn’t any wow moment to celebrate because you’ll be looking at the same smile you’ve come to expect. That’s how you know Invisalign works, because the changes are small and take place over time.

Can You Afford Invisalign Teen?

Invisalign can only be priced by your dentist on a case by case basis, because your teen’s treatment plan will last exactly as long as is required to give them the perfect smile. In most cases, the cost is on par with traditional braces, so you don’t have to worry about it costing more than other orthodontic options. Invisalign does average around $5000 and most of our clinics offer zero interest payment plans as low as $199 monthly. Need even more reason to consider Invisalign? How about the fact that many private insurance plans will cover part of your teen’s orthodontic treatment, including Invisalign.
