Women have always been an influential force. At times, they’ve been hidden behind their male counterparts or their male pen names, but they’ve always had power, even if not out in the open. While our culture still has some room to grow in establishing true equality across the sexes, women are rising and reaching new heights like never before. Many women deserve to be saluted on the pages of history, but these are a few of the women who are changing the world today.
With 2018 being the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War, we wanted to provide some insight and background on what Remembrance Day is about, and to also let everyone know about many of the events that are happening around the lower mainland.
Many of us grow up accustomed to watching the services or parades on November 11th, but a large number of people living here now may be unaware of the meaning behind the tradition.
So whether you’ve been aware of Remembrance Day your whole life and still don’t quite know why we do it, or whether you’ve never heard of it before and the whole thing is new, we hope that this post will shed some light on the matter.

For too many Canadians, the necessities of life needed for basic human dignity are out of reach, making access to everyday needs like food, clothing and shelter difficult.
123Dentist is proud to support the Salvation Army in its 127th Annual Christmas Kettle Campaign. Their goal is to raise $21 million dollars this year, and we’ve tried to do our part.
During our biennial holiday party, we were pleased to present a cheque for $20,000 to Wayne Thompson of the BC Division of the Salvation Army. In addition, our staff and doctors donated another $2,000 in the Christmas Kettles set up at the event, and in other cash donations, for a grand total of $22,000.
Two 123Dentist offices have been instrumental in raising money for cancer research by participating in the Ride to Conquer Cancer.
Our Free Oral Cancer Screenings Were A Huge Success!
On April 17th, in honour of Oral Cancer Awareness Month, we offered free VELScope oral cancer screenings at all of our lower mainland locations. The funds raised through donations totalled approximately $1,500 and have been donated to the BC Cancer Agency. Our screenings also raised awareness about the dangers of oral cancer and brought peace of mind to many people who now know that they are oral cancer free. We want to say thank you to all of our new and existing patients who took the time to be screened and gave donations to support cancer research.
A Note From the Editor: This blog was originally published by 123 Dentist Member Clinic South Point Dental on their blog. It is reposted here with permission.
South Point Dental believes in giving back to the community through charities and groups in Surrey, and recently became involved in an international project through the Cambodian Children’s Fund. The Fund was created by Hollywood movie mogul Scott Neeson, who visited Cambodia and was compelled to take action after witnessing the human tragedy on display in a garbage dump near Steung Meanchey. Today the Cambodian Children’s Fund provides support for over 2000 children and families in need.
