Local Dental Students Run Free Clinic in Chemainus

At 123Dentist.com, we strongly believe in giving back to our community and creating a positive community space within the Lower Mainland. We recently came across this story about local dental students giving back to their community and wanted to support their initiative to make a difference through dentistry.

Ten local UBC dental students spent three days running a free dental clinic on Vancouver Island under the Dental Mission Project. Students participating in the project had the opportunity to set up the clinic for First Nations and community members at the H’ulh-etun Health Society in Chemainus.

Under the guidance of their dental instructors, students performed a full range of treatments, from minor surgical extractions to extensive restorative dentistry.

Not only did students get a chance to improve their skills, but they learned the value of their craft and how something as small as a filling can help a person. The experience helped put their work into perspective and gave them the opportunity to give back.
